FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Two Popular Denver Podcasts Join Forces to Launch “Happy Friday”
Jon Ekstrom of “Jon of All Trades” and Kevin Batstone and Arthur Rawe of “Discussion Combustion Podcast” join Mile High Life in new endeavor

DENVER, CO
(September 19, 2022) – Putting the spotlight on the city and the state they love, Jon Ekstrom of the award-winning Jon of All Trades Podcast is partnering with Kevin Batstone and Arthur Rawe of the wildly popular Discussion Combustion Podcast to create Happy Friday, a new weekly show focusing on cool stuff to do around Colorado, good vibes, and fun banter.

“The world can be a tough and ugly place,” said Ekstrom. “Our goal with this show is not to ignore, diminish, or obfuscate any of the very real challenges people experience in our city. We simply want our show to be a hearty dose of joy and fun as people dive headlong into the weekend.”

“Arthur and I have built Discussion Combustion into something we’re very proud of averaging more than 10,000 downloads per episode,” said Batstone. “Jon has given us some sage advice along the way, and look at what he’s built with Jon of All Trades. That’s a Denver institution at this point. We’d have to be fools to ignore advice he’s given us. We’ve been kicking around this collaboration for several months, and it’s finally time to make it real. We’re stoked.”

Happy Friday’s first episode will debut on Friday, September 23 on podcatchers everywhere and YouTube. The format sees the three hosts cover somewhere between five and 10 topics focusing on Colorado happenings, recent news, cool stuff they found on the internet, and good-natured arguments. The average runtime will be 30 minutes and features a custom theme song by Denver punk band The Frickashinas titled, appropriately, “Happy Friday.”

“Jon shines a spotlight on the fulfillment people get from the work they do. Kevin and I have a mission statement on our show to be critical, loving, and accepting. We welcome guests and provide a platform to be heard. Why not combine that shared energy into a fun new project and help everyone create a truly Happy Friday each week?” added Rawe. “It’s all about the love, baby.”

The show joins Mile High Life, a new network that celebrates the people and stories that uniquely shape life in the Centennial State. Mile High Life is an extension of the successful Colorado sports media empire Mile High Sports.

Connect & Collaborate

April 12, 2018 by Jon Leave a Comment

Just a quick note… I am the new permanent on-air producer for Vital for Colorado‘s twice monthly radio show which is part of Connect & Collaborate with ICOSA and the Colorado Business Roundtable. On the first and third Fridays of each month at 4 pm on 1690 KDMT, you can hear me talking with Vital’s Chairman & CEO and a rotating slate of guests.

Vital for Colorado has been a client of Deft Communications since nearly the inception of my company, and while I’ve been producing this show behind the scenes for 2+ years, transitioning fully into an on-air role is exciting and scratches that radio itch I can’t seem to get rid of.

Thanks to Vital for Colorado and the Colorado Business Roundtable for this opportunity. It’s a pleasure to facilitate conversations that cover issues that matter in Colorado.

Deft Communications: Official Launch Announcement

Laid Off From Noble Energy, Former Public Relations Representative Launches New Communications and Training Firm

DENVER (April 8, 2015) – Jonathan Ekstrom, recently let go from Noble Energy, Inc. after serving as their Denver-based Public Relations Representative for the past 4+ years, has launched Deft Communications, a communications counseling firm specializing in communications training, content creation, employee engagement and employee activation.

“There’s a famous quote from Winston Churchill,” said Ekstrom. “It goes: ‘A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.’ As Noble Energy restructures in response to the collapse in commodity prices, I could either feel sorry for myself about losing my job, or look at this as an opportunity to try something new and be my own boss. I chose the latter. It’s exciting!”

While at Noble Energy, Ekstrom served in a variety of roles. He previously served as the on-the-record spokesman for the Colorado region, managed the company’s regional charitable giving portfolio and served on a variety of boards and committees for trade groups and other organizations. Most recently, Ekstrom worked extensively on Noble Energy’s effort to further enhance the public’s understanding of the oil and gas development process – most notably “fracking” – through the company’s internal training program and community outreach events.

Deft Communications will have a similar focus, but will look to expand this philosophical approach to other industries, while continuing work in oil and gas. “What I’ve found in my time in this industry is that sometimes companies take for granted their most important stakeholders – their employees. Your employees are your ambassadors. Are you getting the most out of them you can?” asked Ekstrom. “That’s what I specialize in.”

Before working at Noble Energy, Ekstrom worked at MGA Communications, Policy Communications, and the Colorado Oil & Gas Association. He received both his Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Speech Communication from Colorado State University. He is a Colorado native.

In March 2014, Ekstrom launched the Jon of All Trades Podcast, where he serves as host and executive producer.

“Noble Energy wished me the best in future endeavors,” said Ekstrom. “I offer the same wish for them. I appreciate the opportunities they afforded me and I adore those I worked with in the Denver and Greeley offices, but I’m ready for the next phase of my professional life.”
